After the Vatican 2 - Rome decreed that the priest will celebrate Mass facing the congregation.

To make this happen, it was necessary to construct a 'table-like' table for the Priest to say Mass.

At St Francis, this table was 'cut' from the original altar and a standalone 'altar' constructed on the upper sanctuary.

Apparently the stone masons who undertook this work, did not do the job to specification and a new stone mason was given the job

In six weeks the altar was built and re-built and a record was left to this effect - a copy of the script is shown on the right
